Gary J. Canfield, 63, of Johnson City passed away peacefully at home after a long illness. Gary is predeceased by his mother Edith Shupp Canfield and father James Canfield. He is survived by his two sisters, Deborah Canfield of Binghamton and Karen (James) Swartwood of Kirkwood, special friend Penny Vangen, one niece Jenna (Terry) Slodki of Houston, TX, and nephew Bryan (Lisa) Ponnwitz and their daughters Haley and Lorelei of Cumming, GA. Gary graduated from Binghamton North High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He loved the ocean where his cremated remains will be released. He worked many years for Frito Lay and ended his electrical maintenance career at Broome Developmental Center. He particularly loved the game of golf, the NY Yankees and the NY Giants. Gary and his family wish to thank Lourdes Hospice and Angels at Home for their loving care in his final days. He requested that donations be me made to Lourdes Hospice in his memory.
Gary's family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 pm Wednesday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. A short service will follow and conclude with military honors.
