Harry Richter, 85, of Binghamton passed away August 8, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Fairview Home. He was born in Germany in 1932. On May 23, 1953 he married Gerda F. Richter and in 1960 they moved to the United States, settling In Binghamton. Harry was an electrician by trade and was a member of the I.B.E.W. Union Local 325 for 56 years. He was a life member and past president of the Germania Maennerchor (German Club) in Binghamton where he also sang in the chorus. He was a member of Johnson City Unity Lodge #970 F&AM and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Binghamton. Harry was predeceased by his wife Gerda in 2011 and his beloved Dachshund Heidi. He is survived by two sisters, Inge Elsasser, Germany and Senta Corrigan, Alexandria, VA, nieces and nephews in the United States and Germany and dear friends Elsa and Peter Huber, Diana O'Hara and Kurt Eschbach. Sincere appreciation is extended to the staff at Good Shepherd Fairview Home for the special care and attention they provided to Harry during the past five years.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. Friends may call from 10:00 - 11:00 am. A Masonic service will be held at 10:15 and the German Club chorus will present a choral tribute at 10:45 am. He will be buried in Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
