James R. Waring, 84, passed away at his home, November 25, 2014. He was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Geneva Waring, sister Jane Ann Bohmer, and brother Robert Waring. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Helen, two daughters Carolyn and Lester Stegman, Lorraine and Travis Rodgers, son Peter, and grandson James Earl. Several wonderful nieces and nephews and a special great, great nephew, along with a special god daughter of whom he was very fond. James adored gardening and working in the outdoors as well as being a voracious reader. James was a graduate with a Bachelors of Science degree in chemistry at St. Francis University, Masters of Science in biochemistry at Perdue University. James was very active for many years in the local chapter of the American Chemical Society. He served as chairman on the local chapter of the ACS. Also he was the second recipient of the member of the year award. in the local section of the ACS. He worked at GAF for 23 years and retired from IBM after 13 years. He is holder of 4 patents at GAF. James was a member of Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Church.
Funeral prayers will be 9:15 am Monday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton and 10:00 am at the Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Church, where The Office of Christian Burial and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Holy Spirit Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2-5 pm, with a Parastas service at 4:30 pm.
