Please take a moment to view Lynn's photo gallery that displays a lifetime of activities with family and friends. On December 24, 2016, our husband, father, grandfather and friend, Marine SSGT Lynn L. Matthews, bravely fought his final battle. He has now joined the Eternal Division of Marines that have gone before him. He was 85. A veteran of the Korean War, Lynn served in the USMC where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was twice wounded and the recipient of the Purple Heart. His love of family and country were the foundations upon which he built his life. He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 63 years, Rita (DeMarco) Matthews, his children Lynn L. Matthews III and his wife Lisa, Christine M. Cahill and husband Bob, Dean Matthews and fiancée Kirstin Hergel, grandchildren, Christopher Herrick and fiancée Alison Walshe, Bobby, Danny and Brian Cahill, Pat Matthews and fiancée Mariah Masciarelli, Jenna L. Matthews, great-granddaughter Bailey Lynn Matthews.  Sister-in-law Vera (DeMarco) Catalano, brother-in-law Bud DeMarco and wife Sue and several nieces and nephews. As we know family is not always blood related and so close to his heart is Francie Cook, Nicole (David) Osterhout, Trevor and Nolan Osterhout, Joey Cook and Stephanie Cook. Lynn had a huge collection of friends, who almost all knew him affectionately as "Sarge", “Chief” or “The Mayor of Pearl Avenue.” Lynn was a life member and Past Commandant of the John W. Thurston Marine Corps League, a Past Commander of American Legion Post 80 and a Staff officer of VFW Post 478. He was the oldest living member of the Square Deal Riders motorcycle club, a longtime member of the Binghamton Lodge #70 B.P.O.E., Sons of Italy Lodge Order 487, a member of the Binghamton German Club for over 40 years, and the last President of the Lincoln Elementary School PTA. He began working as a journeyman carpenter and retired as a salesman and estimator for J.R. Garrets in 1994. Funeral services will be 9:00 am Friday at the Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd, 360 Conklin Ave. Binghamton. Military honors will be accorded at the conclusion of the church service. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Kingsley, PA. The family will receive friends at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton’ Thurday from (4-7) pm. A post funeral reception will be held from 12:00 noon - 4:00 pm Friday at the Relief Pitcher, 197 Conklin Ave. Binghamton. Those wishing to make a donation in Lynn's memory may send a contribution to the JW Thurston Marine Corps League, P.O. Box 1784, Binghamton N.Y.13901. The contributions will be used to carry out Lynn’s wishes.  SEMPRE FI!

The Marine Corps Hymn

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
of United States Marine.

Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

SEMPER FI
