Robert C. Swartwood, 94, of Binghamton was lifted to Heaven February 23, 2017 from the NYS Veteran's Home in Oxford. Robert is survived by his beloved family, three children; Ann Marie and Daniel Cullen of Chattanooga, TN, Peggy and Joe Corson of Binghamton and  Michael C. and Lori Swartwood of Kunkletown, PA, grandchildren; Daniel, Bobby, Nancy, Holly, Nate, Joey, Jamie and Ashley, 12 great-grandchildren, one sister Joyce Brown, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  His wife Ethel Mae and grandson Michael Cullen preceded him in death.On October 17, 1942 he married Ethel. He was a combat infantryman during WWII serving in the 3rd Infantry Division. A true sportsman, he loved hunting, fishing, boating, camping, scuba diving, as well as being a hunter safety instructor. He was a heavy weight boxer, both locally and  during his time in the Army. He was a life member of the Binghamton German Club, a former member of the Moose Club and the Broome County Sportsman Association. He was a hammerman and supervisor at Endicott Forging. He truly was the rock of his family; the one person everyone knew would be there for them.


A memorial Mass will be held 11:00 am Tuesday at St. Paul's Church, corner of Chenango and Robinson Sts., Binghamton. Burial with military honors will follow at Spring Forest Cemetery.
