Venita Garbade Hottenstein, 74, of Binghamton passed away October 4, 2016, from injuries sustained in a recent fall at her home. She is survived by her beloved family, her husband of 32 years, Kenneth Hottenstein, her children, Russell Stevens, Nicholas Stevens, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Kalmanowicz, Kenneth (Kathy) Hottenstein, David (Tami) Hottenstein, Marjorie Hottenstein, Donald (Pam) Kinstler, grandchildren, Michelle Stevens, Ronn Stevens, Kalene Ticknor, Max and Tom DeAngelo, Kenny, Kristopher and Trajan Hottenstein, Melly Wynia, Mandy Dancho, Dan and Breeze Kalmanowicz, Derek and Heather Kinstler, great-grandchildren, Jillian, Payton, Kmarie, Ronn, Jr., Nathan, Cole, Eli, Tom, Josh, Zachari, Kaiden and Alizah, special nephew and nieces, Rob (Linda) Garbade, Mary Beth  (wife of the late Rick) Garbade, her "sister" Caroline Borgmann, several nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents John and Elly Garbade and her brother J. Robert Garbade. Nita was the matriarch of her family. She cherished her roll as Oma and Tante and all the time she spent with her family, especially while hosting the entire family for Thanksgiving and Christmas, when she prepared traditional German dinners for everyone. For over thirty years she summered at Sandy Pond on Lake Ontario. Although she loved all of her family equally, she developed special relationships with her grandaughter Kalene, and great-grandsons Zachari and Kaiden. A woman of many talents she designed her own home and garden and supervised their construction. Nita was very organized and always had everything in it's proper place. She enjoyed quilting, having made over 100 quilts, including baby quilts for all her grandchildren. Nita frequently attended quilting retreats, and was a past president of the Common Thread Quilters Group. She was a world traveler and cherished the memories of her many trips across the globe.
