Norman McSweyn went home to be with the Lord December 12, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, after a valiant battle with cancer.
He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife Lizeth Diaz-Ledesma and their 4 year old twin children; Norman O. and Rachel G. McSweyn, his mother Joan Grish McSweyn, his siblings; David and Elizabeth McSweyn, an uncle John Grish and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Oswaldo Diaz-Lara and Eulalia Ledesma-Diaz. He was predeceased by his father. Dr. Norman McSweyn.
Norman was born in Johnson City, NY but was raised in Plymouth, PA. He charted his own path in life, quitting college to work on the railroad. He worked from the New York Susquehanna and Western Railroad for 17 years. In recent years he became a stay at home dad caring for his two children.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, biking and canoeing and was an avid ham radio operator with the call sign N3YKF. He had a private pilot license. Before he was married, he used to rent small planes, just to fly for fun. One of his favorite aircrafts was a Cesna. After his marriage, as he was not working, he quit flying, but he always kept the hope to fly again one day.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 am Wednesday at the Parish Church of Sts. John and Andrew 1263 Vestal Ave. Binghamton. Following the Mass he will be cremated.
