Alberta (Bertie) Schmidt Sullivan, 85 of Binghamton NY and Port St. Lucie, Fl passed away after a brief illness on Oct 14, 2021 in Binghamton, NY. Predeceased by her parents Albert Schmidt and Helen Schmidt Hannon, son Robert Sullivan, daughter and son in law Christine and David Brown, grandson Michael Brown, sister Teal Dougherty, Brother Ed Hannon, Brother in laws Timothy and William Sullivan, nephews Joseph Sullivan and Jim Kilmer, special cousins Lenny and Jean Graf.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Francis E. Sullivan, two sons David (Lou Ann) Sullivan, Daniel (Marty) Sullivan and one daughter Sandy Sullivan (Mark Borden); grandchildren Deidre (Brad) Garber., Phoenix, AZ, Alicia (Michael) Chilson, Apalachin, NY Kiel (Lyndsay) Sullivan, Briana (Keith) Spangenburg, Cassidy Sullivan, Shane Sullivan, Darby Borden (Tucker Swartwood); great Grandchildren Jordyn and Teagan Spangenburg, Corey and Mc Kenna Sullivan, Payton and Olivia Swartwood. Sister Carol (Ron) Kilmer, brother William Schmidt. Sister-in-laws Linda Schmidt, Kathy Hannon, Carol Sullivan, Gloria Sullivan, several nieces nephews and cousins.
Bertie's parents owned Curlytop Bakery and her picture at age 2 was the Logo which was used for all of their baked goods.
Bertie was a 1954 graduate of Binghamton North High School. She was a member of the Binghamton Firemen's Auxiliary, Theodore Roosevelt PTA, grade mother for 11 years, Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Life Member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary 478, member of the American Legion 1645 Auxiliary, charter member of the Wives of U.S. Submarine Veterans WWII Hudson Mohawk. Member of U.S. Submarine Veterans Treasure Coast Base, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary 206, American Diabetes Assoc.
Bertie worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Alvin Carpenter. After raising her 5 children she was secretary for St. Catherine's School. She was very close to her 8 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren.
Private Service will be held on Tuesday October 19th at 10 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Hillcrest, NY. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.
