Anne DuMond 10/25/1941 – 5/5/2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anne DuMond. Anne was born and raised in Binghamton, NY. She was predeceased by her parents Raoul and Theda, her brothers Richard and John, and her daughter Deborah (Debbie).
She is survived by her children, Shelly and Mike Kaminsky; Robert (Bob) Gaffney; and Shawne and Ed Gassner; her friend and partner, Frank Andros; her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bob Gensler; and her sister-in-law, Eleanor DuMond. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and her lifelong best friend, Sue Merrill.
Those who knew Anne often described her as the strongest person they knew. She faced and overcame a great deal of adversity in her life. She was independent, strong willed, creative, passionate and she loved fiercely.
Over the years, Anne worked as a waitress, manager, bar owner, and seamstress. People knew her from Perkins Pancake House, Goldie’s Bar, and her business, Anny’s Sewing. She loved sewing, gardening, cooking, reading, and listening to music. Neighbors often saw her gardening early to beat the heat, wearing her wide-brimmed straw hat. She made many friends by sharing her harvest.
While she was all those things and more, above all else, she was a mother. She would say her greatest achievement was her children. She taught us right from wrong and instilled in us a strong work ethic. She said that every job has value and that you do your absolute best no matter what the job is.
Throughout all her challenges in life, she remained positive and optimistic. She would use her creativity to try to solve the challenges she faced even when her body was giving up on her, she did not give up on living her best life. Even up until her last weeks when she lost the use of her arms, she continued to try to find ways to manage her surroundings. She would say that every day she was able to open her eyes, look at the sky, be with her kids and tell them that she loved them, it was a good day.
There will be a private service with the family, and she will be buried at Calvary cemetery with her daughter Debbie.
In honor of Anne, please consider donating to Mercy House of the Southern Tier 212 N. McKinley Ave. Endicott, NY 13760 where Anne spent the last 3 weeks of her life being cared for by the most amazing people. They were able to care for her in ways that her family could not, which gave her family the opportunity to be present in her last days and offer her comfort and support.
