Carl R. Stannard, Jr.

 
Carl R Stannard physics professor emeritus and devoted father passed away March 16, 2020. He is predeceased by his wife L Gay Stannard (October 28, 2011). He is survived by 2 sons Kent Stannard (Grant Day), and Ross Stannard (Loraine Harkin), 2 grandchildren Rowan Stannard, and Kaitlyn Stannard, 2 brothers John Stannard and Kent Stannard (Barbara Stannard),and many nephews and nieces. He earned his PHD in physics at Cornell University and taught at SUNY Binghamton for over 30 years. He is a mind that will be missed by many. Often he was recognized at many elementary schools with liquid nitrogen to educate and entertain children. He wanted others to benefit from his knowledge. He loved to read and frequently write about science and politics. He also found the site for the Kopernik Observatory in Vestal.  A memorial service will be held at the Northminster Presbyterian Church, 711 Farm-to-Market Rd, Endwell, NY, Saturday September 26, 2020 at 11:00 am. The family will greet friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Those attending are expected to wear a mask and respect physical distancing requirements while standing in line and while seated. For those unable to attend in person due to travel restrictions or safety concerns for gathering in crowds, the service will be livestreamed.
