Carole Wood Obituary

Carole Ann Wood, 81, was reunited with her husband and love, Ralphie, on February 2, 2024. She is predeceased by her husband Ralph Wood; parents Lee & Alberta Hull and her sister Janet Tenser. She is survived by her children Brian (Mary) Wood, Carrie (Robert) Charpinsky;  bonus children Gary (Gail) Wood, Glen (Diane) Wood, Joseph (Margaret) Kalet and Michelle Wood; grandchildren Jennifer, Courtney, Julia, Carley, Nathan, Addisyn, Kellen, Carragin, Erin, Heather, Brittany, Jaclyn, Glen, Jude, Chris, Daniel, Mindy, Renee, and Shane; an ever growing number of great grandchildren; siblings, Laura (Wilbur) Decker, Frederick (Julie) Hull and brother-in-law Richard Tenser, along with many nieces and nephews.

Carole was born in Oneonta NY and moved to Deposit NY at the age of 6. She received her nursing degree at State Hospital in Binghamton and carried out her passion for 42 years at Lourdes Hospital.   During her time there, she created relationships based on her kindness, compassion, infectious smile and love for her patients, families, and coworkers that continue to this day with countless stories of her devotion and caring personality.  She always wore a smile, had a joke or two to tell and her presence was always met with hugs and laughter which are a true representation of her beautiful soul. Carole retired in 2006 after receiving her Alzheimer’s diagnosis.  However, she chose to focus on the positives and would tell people her diagnosis was her blessing so that she could retire early and spend more time with her grandchildren.

Family and friendships were Carole’s joy in life.  Carole’s pride and love for her children were unwavering, but her grandchildren were the true lights of her life.  You would always find Grandma Carole on the floor with the kids coloring, reading books, or just playing.  She never said no to venturing outside with them to dig up worms for fishing or find a way to become a muddy mess. One of her life’s mottos was “When you come in dirty, I know you had a good time.”

Carole was not just a mom and grandma to those in her family, but to all those she encountered. Many saw her as a second mom, a second home, a safe person to call when in need of anything. The doors were never locked at Carole and Ralph’s.  People came to relax, grab something to eat, talk, look for advice, or just be together.  Carole and Ralph instilled a strong family connection which included Sunday dinner tradition that continues to this day. We are one big, always growing family because of them.
