Charlie Bell, 95, passed away peacefully Friday, April 25, 2025. Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Ruth Bell. Charlie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janet D. Bell; his daughter Mary Margaret Smith (Edmund M. Smith, Jr.); grandsons Joseph P. Smith and Edmund M. Smith III (Jennifer) along with great-grandson Jared Smith and by several nieces and nephews. Charlie was a proud Korean War Army Veteran. He retired in 1985 from the NYS DOT after 37 years. Charlie was an avid fisherman and loved to spend time at their cottage on Wellsley Island on The St. Lawrence River. Charlie was a lifelong member of the Centenary-Chenango Street Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday, May 19th at the Centenary-Chenango Street United Methodist Church The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be in Riverside Cemetery, in Windsor. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to his church, 438 Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY 13901.
