David Conklin Obituary

David R. Conklin, 66, of Binghamton, passed away July 26, 2025, after a courageous battle with ALS.

He is survived by his cherished family, his wife Cristina; his children, Matthew (Stephanie) Conklin, Michael Conklin (Fiancé Tasha Militello) and Melissa (Terry) Conklin Godoy; his bonus son Jason (Stephanie) Conklin; and bonus daughter Trinity Swan Micha; his grandchildren, Brantley, Zebulon, and Ro and other “grandkids", Bentley, Tucker, Chase, Baker, Ella and Savannah; his sister Deborah Conklin; his mother-in-law Barbara Gorman; nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws and his fur baby Bailey.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bonnie Conklin, and his brother, Donald Conklin.

A native of Conklin, David attended Susquehanna Valley Schools. For many years, he worked as a mechanic in local garages before opening his own business, Broome Auto Service, on Court St. in Binghamton. After losing the business in the 2006 floods he acquired his certifications in code enforcement. He concluded his work career as a code enforcement officer in the Town of Union.

An avid fan of NASCAR and stock car racing, Dave put his skills to good use as a driver and mechanic on various teams at Shangri-La Speedway. After stepping away from the race scene to focus on family, he later returned and served as part of the fire protection and safety crew for many years alongside his son, Michael.

Dave proudly served his community for over 44 years as a volunteer firefighter, first with the Nimmonsburg Fire Department, then Hinman's Corners, which eventually became Chenango Fire Department, as well as the Chenango Ambulance Service (life member) Dave was proud to serve alongside his wife, son, and daughter in fire and EMS.

David was a multi-layered man who loved his family deeply and will be a missing piece of the puzzle for each person in his life.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 29th, at the Northbridge Church 1017 Conklin Road, Conklin, NY. The family will greet friends from 11 am-1 pm, memorial service at 1 pm, followed by a light luncheon.

He will be laid to rest privately at Vestal Hills Memorial Park at a later date.

In place of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Shady Strong ALS Awareness (https://shadystrong.org/) in Dave's memory.
