It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, David Nelson Orr, who left this world on July 24th, 2025, after the bravest and most courageous battle against cancer.
Those who knew Dave— knew that he was a true warrior, not only in his battles against his health but throughout his entire life. For a period of his life, he was dedicated to protecting and helping others, proudly serving his community as both a firefighter and EMT. He ran toward danger while others ran away. He comforted strangers through their worst days and was a protector to all. He radiated light through the darkest of times and made the world a safer, kinder, and better place.
Dave was the proudest father to his boys, and his greatest joy came from being the best Pop-Pop to his grandchildren. He was an amazing and skilled woodworker and machinist, and he taught his children everything he knew with patience. His strength carried through the way he continuously showed up for his family. He endured far more than most ever knew—but never let it harden him. Instead, he continued to pour love into anyone whose path he crossed. He stayed gentle, holding our children, wiping away tears, always offering a listening ear, and the best advice.
David is survived by his loving children— Brandon, Zachary, and Austin, and their wives Tori, Emily, and Anjolie. Through his grandchildren— Talon, Tyler, Teain, Madilyn, Brantley, Jansen, Ellamae, and Mallory. Through his former wife, Janet Orr, and through his brother Ron and his wife Connie. Sisters— Bonita, Darlene, and Brenda, he leaves behind many who knew him as family, a friend, an uncle, and a cousin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Sandy Orr, whom he loved dearly and spoke of often.
A funeral service in honor of Dave’s life will be held 11:00 am Monday August 4th at Hopler and Eschbach Funeral Home 483 Chenango Street in Binghamton, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 10:00 am - 10:50 am.
A graveside burial service will follow at Quaker Lake Cemetery. Friends and family will join together afterwards at the Sanitaria Springs Fire Station to celebrate David and the life he lived.
Dad, your fight may be over, but your love, courage, life lessons, and advice will live on in every life you touched. We are so proud of the man you were and will carry you with us always.
