Don L. Baker

Kirkwood:  Don L. Baker, 87, passed away May 28, 2025 at Mercy House. He is survived by his beloved family, his wife of 40 years Lucy Baker; their children Daniel (Natalya) Baker and Timothy (Lynn) Baker, Kimberly (Stephen) Hope and Karen Vital; 10 grandchildren Morgan (Phil) Opelt, Trevor Hope, Matthew, Michael and Meghan Baker, Macy, Kaya, Lucas and Delia Vital and Nico Baker; two sisters Lois Wachtman and Lila (Bob) Earwood. He was predeceased by his brother Dale and his beloved dogs Princess and Ebony. A native of Elyria, Ohio, Don graduated from General Motors Institute and Ohio State University. He was an engineer for IBM, retiring after almost 30 years of service. Don lived an active life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, scuba diving, gardening and camping. He was also an umpire for area baseball and softball leagues. Don was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Vestal. Above all else, he loved his family deeply.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 pm Sunday  June 1, at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. The funeral will be private and he will be entombed in Riverhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wounded Warriors Project in Don's memory.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy House for their dedication to both Don and the family. It made his last days peaceful and comforting.
