After fighting a brave battle against cancer, Donna Elizabeth Schrauger (DeVries), age 57 of Endicott, New York passed away peacefully, surrounded by love at home on June 13th, 2021. Donna was born October 23, 1963 in Bay Shore, New York. She is survived by her daughters Lisa (Ben) Mather and Stefanie (Sean) Hurley, her partner Robert Seaver, siblings Nancy (John) Sulzynski and Edward (Alejandra) DeVries, her grandchildren Mariah, Thomas, Naomi, Rachael, Rebekah, Jonathan, Samuel, Ava, Hannah, Olivia, and Patrick, her father Edward (Margie) DeVries, her aunt Evelyn and numerous loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Ada Dell Warner and grandmother Evelyn Worner.
Donna raised two children as a single working mother in Binghamton, New York. Although she never graduated high school, she went back and completed her GED. Her pleasant personality led to success at a variety of communication and customer service positions - making many dear friends along the way. She later worked at Lander for a period of time, which is where she was first introduced to Bob. When Lander eventually closed down, she went back to school with tenacity; graduating top of her class with a 4.0 from Ridley-Lowell Business & Technical Institute. Most recently, Donna worked at UHS and was heartbroken when she was unable to return due to her illness. She was fortunate to carry-on close friendships and received care and comfort from all those around her. She was especially grateful to her family and close friends that stuck with her throughout the day-to-day demise caused by her chemo, it’s side-effects, and the aftermath.
Donna loved her family with all her heart; especially her grandbabies. She found so much joy watching birds (especially hummingbirds), smelling flowers, and just admiring the beauty of nature. She cherished the memories made at family gatherings playing board and card games and doing puzzles and let’s just say, she wasn’t always a good sport! Although she loathed the act of traveling (driving, walking, flying, being a passenger), she thoroughly enjoyed the different destinations she’d eventually arrive at. It was the making of memories with her family that motivated her to keep going, so much so - she even made it overseas to visit her daughter in Spain! She loved shopping, reading, watching tennis, playing with her grandbabies, making cookies, and the list could quite literally go on and on. She was lively and dynamic, full of energy and joy, and her loss will be felt profoundly.
Donna, with a strong echo from her family, wanted to express her utmost gratitude to all the nurses from 1 Ross at Lourdes. We were all so blessed to have met such kind, compassionate, and caring nurses during such a difficult time. Donna certainly left her mark during that hospital stay, and wherever she went for that matter. She was a bright light that selflessly carried on each and every day, worrying about everyone else and doing her very best to take care of everyone around her. Forever honor her legacy by always choosing to be kind.
If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever.
Memorial Service will be held 11 am Saturday July 10, 2021 at the Montrose Christian Fellowship, 7010 PA Route 29, Montrose, PA, 18801
