Engstrom, 100, died on January 7, 2021 of Covid-19 and related causes.  Dorothy was born in Burlington, Wisconsin on February 6, 1920 to Nelda and Charles Utpadel. She grew up in Wheeling, Illinois and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1937.  She then graduated from Northwestern University in 1941with a degree in Public School Music.  Dorothy met John R. Engstrom in the Highland Park High School band where she played trumpet and he played percussion.  She married John in 1942 in Boston and moved to Endicott, New York in 1945.  Dorothy and John were married for 76 years before his passing in 2019.  She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, an honorary music sorority.  She was a long time member of the Harmony Club of Binghamton and was a member of the Maine Community Band for several years.  Dorothy enjoyed playing Bridge and was a member of several Bridge clubs. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years and was a volunteer at Wilson Memorial Hospital for 25 years.  She was very active at First Presbyterian Church of Endicott for over 60 years, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and Elder, before that church left the PCUSA.  Dorothy and John joined the Endwell Methodist Church in 2017.  She is survived by her son Lee George Engstrom (James Bleeker) of Grand Rapids, Michigan and her daughter Lynne Engstrom Williams (Glen) of Springdale, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Per Engstrom(Kathy Panyard Engstrom) and Lars Engstrom (Kelly Rector Engstrom), and seven great grandchildren; Aidan, Berit, Camille, Petra, Soren, Annike, and Tova.  Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Nelda and Charles Utpadel. A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Saturday August 7 at the Endwell United Methodist Church, 3301 Watson Blvd., Endwell, NY. Memorials may be made to the Endwell UMC Memorial Fund (for the enhancement of music). (www.endwellumc.org), or to Lourdes Hospital Foundation, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, NY 13905.
