Dorothy E (DiRienzo) Gabello Sherman

 Dorothy E. Gabello Sherman, 98, passed away September 2, 2023. She is survived by her children Michael (Marilou) Gabello, Judith A. (Michael) Sackett, Rita Gabello Lindow, Stephen G. (Katie) Gabello, Paula Gabello-Edwards; stepson John (Rosemarie) Sherman; 14 grandchildren, many, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husbands George Gabello and Warren Sherman; son George (Kathy) Gabello; step-daughter Jackie Sickles; granddaughter Lynne Gallager Davis; her parents and ten siblings. Dorothy graduated from St. Ann's High School in Scranton and in the first class of cadet nurses in 1943 from the Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing. She retired from Lourdes Hospital after 40 years of service and also worked private duty nursing. She volunteered at the local VA  clinic for 14 years. Dorothy was a member of the Kirkwood and First Ward Senior Citizens, the Ladies of the Elks Auxiliary #70 and the Scarlett Bonnets of the Red Hat Society.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 am Friday at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Court St. Binghamton. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Thursday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Mercy House in her memory.
