Dr. Jeffrey Gray Obituary

Jeffrey R. Gray, M.D., chief medical officer of UHS Hospitals, passed away April 29, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.  He was 55.

Dr. Gray is survived by his wife Brooke; children Noah, Emma and Ailey; his mother, Janet; and his brother Matt and children Cameron, Samanta, Tanner and Nolan.  He was predeceased by his father, Preston Randall Gray Jr.

Dr. Gray was an exceptional member of the UHS medical team and an outstanding leader within UHS Hospitals.  He was a beloved physician who championed excellence in the care of patients and supported everyone on the caregiving team.

A native of the Pittsburgh area, he earned his medical degree from the New York Medical College at Valhalla in 1997 and completed a residency at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson.

Board-certified in internal medicine, he served with the Pantano Clinic of the University of Arizona Medical Center and later was medical staff president at Catskill Regional Medical Center.

He joined UHS in 2012, initially as director of the Hospitalist Program, and later promoted to Vice President for Hospital Services and also served as the CMO of UHS Delaware Valley Hospital. He was then selected as chief medical officer of UHS Hospitals, leading the team of physicians who practice at UHS Wilson Medical Center and UHS Binghamton General Hospitals.

At the hospitals, Dr. Gray was well-known for his wit, the warmth he displayed to others in every interaction and his ability to make people comfortable.

In his personal life, he was an avid skier, enjoyed golf, a lifelong Pittsburgh sports fan, enjoyed landscaping his lawn and became adept at transporting his childrens' horses by trailer to a number of equestrian shows.
