Eddie B. Hawkins, 68, was welcomed home into heaven on May 18, 2026, at Bridgewater Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation after a courageous battle with multiple illnesses.
Eddie was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence could light up any room. He is survived by his beloved son, Jurrell Hawkins and daughter-in-law Luma Hawkins, along with his six grandchildren, whom he loved more deeply than words could ever express. His grandbabies were truly the center of his world, all who brought him endless joy and pride. He is also survived by his older sisters, Louise Oglesby and Norma Hughes, and younger brother, Reggie Hawkins, both he cherished dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Hawkins Sr.; his mother, Izola Hawkins; his sisters, Ola Ponds, and Gail Hawkins and his brothers, Lonnie Hawkins Jr., Elton “Pop” Hawkins, and Dale Hawkins. Though reunited with those who went before him, Eddie leaves behind a family and community who will forever carry his love in their hearts.
Eddie loved life in the purest way. He loved spending time with family, fishing, talking with anyone who crossed his path, and caring for dogs. He was a passionate sports fan, and no athlete brought him more excitement than LeBron James. He also had a legendary sweet tooth — if there was candy around, Eddie was never too far away.
But above all else, Eddie was known for his heart. To know him was to know love, laughter, and generosity. There was no such thing as a stranger to Eddie. He welcomed everyone with open arms and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His warmth and spirit touched countless lives throughout the Binghamton community, and his memory will continue to live on from corner to corner of the city he called home.
Though he may be gone from this earth, Eddie’s legacy lives on through his son, grandchildren, family, and the many people blessed enough to know him. The love he gave so freely will never be forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, and details will be shared with family and friends once arrangements are finalized.
