Evelyn Rangel, 66, of Venice, FL, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025 after an extended illness. Evelyn was born July 8, 1959 at Ideal Hospital in Endicott, NY and was a graduate of Vestal High School. Evelyn worked for UHS in the health care industry for over 25 years.
Evelyn lived her life with unconditional love and selfless devotion to her family – always giving of herself to help and support in any way that she could. She set an example for us in how she navigated hardships that came her way in life with courage, resolve and dignity. Evelyn had a clever mind and keen wit and would light up any room with her infectious laugh and inspired sense of humor. Her grandchildren called her “Grandma Sunshine”, a nickname that she treasured and always lived up to.
Evelyn is survived by her children: Joshua (Megan) Rangel and Jamie (Tony) Augustine; her 4 grandchildren Joshua & Jackson Rangel and Nila & Rosie Augustine; her brother Jim Marlin (Kathy); her sisters Sheila Shaff, Cheryl (Bob) Irons and Amy Mathey; nieces Karastin Nalepa, Heather Walker, Ashley Shaff, Nicole Hooper and nephew Hiram Shaff. She was predeceased by her parents Nila Marie and James F. Marlin, sister Wendy Shaff and niece Holly Nalepa.
We celebrate the life of Evelyn – a “diamond in the rough” - an extraordinary mother, grandmother, sister and friend who lived life on her own terms with authenticity, honor, generosity and a tremendous sense of humor. We cherish the memory of our beloved Evelyn and all of her special “Evelynisms” that make us laugh and we marvel at the brilliant “diamond” that she uniquely personified. She leaves an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Evelyn’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses in the ICU and Ross 3 Surgical Floor at Guthrie Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, NY for their expert and compassionate care they provided Evelyn.
