Harriet Dinowitz Obituary



Harriet Dinowitz, 96, passed away peacefully January 10, 2023 at home, just shy of her 97th birthday. She is survived by her children Elaine(Mark) Fishbein, Dr. Mark (Elaine) Dinowitz, and Peter (Jacqueline) Dinowitz; 6 grandchildren, Jason and Evan Fishbein, Matthew, Jessica, Julian, and Jordan Dinowitz; 3 great grandchildren, Jaiden, Katya, and Leonix; and her dedicated companion George Shirkey. Harriet was predeceased by her devoted husband Milton in 1982; her sister Natalie Herman, and a beloved granddaughter Melanie Dinowitz.
 
 Harriet was born in the Bronx, daughter of Barney and Elsie (nee Muscot) Regow. She worked for the NYC Public Schools as a secretary at Benjamin Franklin High School and the Manhattan Vocational Technical High School. She enjoyed theater, culture, music, playing the piano,  writing poetry and short stories, and watching classic movies. Harriet was a professionally trained opera singer and frequented the Metropolitan Opera House. Amongst her favorite composers were Puccini, Verdi, and Donizetti. She was widely known for her beautiful singing voice and often sang famous arias. Harriet spoke Yiddish and enjoyed Yiddish theatre.
 
 Harriet has had poetry published in Seniors Today Magazine and the Southern Poetry Society. She has read her works in local libraries and bookstores, and the JCC in Tenafly, NJ. She was presented with a certificate of commendation from the office of the Mayor of Tenafly.
 
 In addition to these accomplishments, Harriet was strong, smart, and a passionate woman with much style, poise, and grace. She was a caring and devoted wife, companion, mother, and grandmother and will be deeply missed
.


   A graveside funeral service will be held at1:00 pm, Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, NY. 


  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital, c/o  Kalurah Shriners, 549 Chenango St. Binghamton, NY 13901, or you may plant a tree in Harriet's memory.
