The Honorable Fredric S. Stapleton (Fred), age 71, of Windsor, NY passed away peacefully at Wilson Hospital on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. Fred was born on January 6, 1952, son of the late Fredric S. Stapleton Jr. & Sarah J. (Baker) Stapleton. He had an idyllic childhood in Dresden, NY alongside his sister, friends, and countless pets. His family later moved to Binghamton, NY where he made life-long friends and graduated from Binghamton Central High School. He attended Broome Community College and graduated from the Broome County Police Academy. He met his beloved Annie in 1977 and they married in 1978. Together they made their home in Windsor, NY where he built their house and they raised three children. Fred had a strong work ethic and served the community well with a fifty-year career. He retired from the Binghamton Police Department in 1999 and from the Town of Windsor as Town Justice in 2023. During the course of his career, he upheld the law and made decisions with logic and great empathy. Fred was known for his fairness, easy smile, quick wit and humor, and a gentle, unassuming demeanor. He was a wonderful storyteller, enjoyed the little things, and made life fun! Fred was a true gentleman. He loved his family more than anything and especially adored his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents, and his sister Deborah. He is also predeceased by his father-in-law Harry E. Hoover and mother-in-law M. Helen Hoover. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Anne Stapleton. He leaves behind three cherished children Jacqueline (Peter Durham, children Jack and Madelyn) of Chenango Bridge, NY, Fredric (wife Kristin, children Fredric and Annalise) of Vienna, VA, and Robert (wife Kristy, children Cole, Craig, and Courtney) of Chenango Forks, NY. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Robert Hoover of Binghamton, NY and Harry Hoover (wife Leenie) of Siler City, NC, his aunt Marilyn Baker of Tampa, FL, nieces, several cousins, and many dear friends.
