Irene O. Sabacek,100, of Vestal, NY, only child of Joseph and Barbara Perro, died peacefully at home on April 21, 2021 surrounded by members of her loving family. She is survived by Fred, her husband of 80 years, sons Ron and Bruce and grandsons Jeremy and Brent. She was lovingly cared for by Jean, Tammy, Diana, Carolyn and Kristi, a group of skilled and dedicated caregivers. Irene loved playing the piano, painting landscapes, cooking, traveling and volunteering. She was a longtime member of John Hus Presbyterian Church, serving on the session and tirelessly working to raise money from bake and rummage sales. She was also a cornerstone of Stonehenge Recreation Association in Greene, NY, a retreat enjoyed by John Hus Church members and their friends and families. Irene was also a member of the Czechoslovak Moravian Club. She was also a volunteer at Fairview Good Shepherd Nursing Home. After graduating from Johnson City High, she studied at Ridley Lowell Business School, before being employed at Fowlers. After her sons left for college, Irene worked at SUNY Broome, (Broome Tech) later at Binghamton University’s Music Department. Upon retirement, Fred and Irene decided to winter in Sarasota, FL where they purchased a condo and entertained family and friends for over 30 years. Domestic and International travel became a passion for Fred and Irene and they cruised in the Caribbean as recently as November 2016 with their two sons. That passion included tasting cuisine from Bermuda, Norway, Spain, France, Holland, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the UK, among others. There was room in her heart and home for the “kitty cats”, Ron brought home and the squirrels and birds in her backyard. They will miss their loyal friend.
