Jalal Zuwiyya

Jalal Zuwiyya, age 93, passed away peacefully at his home on February 24, 2026.  He was surrounded by his loving family.

Jalal had an incredible life from start to finish.  He was born in Lebanon in 1932.   He was one of eight children and the only one that came to the United States to start a new life.  After college, he moved to the United States around 1960.   At SUNY Geneseo graduate school, he met his wife, Nancy (deceased in 2013).   They settled in Vestal, NY where Jalal worked at SUNY Binghamton as a librarian for over 40 years.   In 1980, inspired by his son’s involvement in bicycles and skateboarding, Jalal opened BC Bicycles on the Vestal Parkway.  Throughout the decades in Vestal, Jalal and Nancy hosted many relatives from Lebanon as they moved to the country, attended college and established their own lives here.   He started the early formation of a Lebanese/Middle Eastern community in the Binghamton area that supported each other through friendships, social gatherings and of course delicious food.  

Jalal was a loving father, husband and guiding force of love, generosity, and wisdom to his large extended family and many friends.   He touched so many lives in a helpful and positive way.  Every Christmas, over 30 family members visited Jalal at his house to enjoy the holidays together.   He truly enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends. 

He is survived by his second wife Rajaa, his three sons (David, Joe, and Rami), their wives (Sara, Wendi, and Jennifer) and seven grandchildren.  

Jalal was a very positive ambitious person with a can-do attitude – he instilled so many of these values into his children and family.   We are all lucky to have Jalal in our lives.   In the afterlife, Jalal will reunite with all those he loved so dearly.

1:00PM Funeral Services at Masjid Al-Tawheed in Binghamton, NY

2:30 PM burial in cemetery at 889 Town Line Rd, Johnson City NY

3:30 PM Services at the Zuwiyya home
