Janet M Orr

It is with the saddest of hearts that we are announcing the passing of our beloved mother and Mimi, Janet Marie Orr (July 29th, 1969 – June 4th, 2026), after a long-fought battle against pancreatic cancer over the last two and a half years.

Janet’s memory will live on and be cherished by many, including her siblings – Randy & Meri-K Ritter, Annmarie Palmer, and Sandy Brewster, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She is survived by her children, Brandon and his wife Tori, Courtney and Robert, Zachary and his wife Emily, and Austin and his wife Anjolie. She has eight grandchildren who are her entire world and have kept her heart full on the darkest of days – Talon, Tyler, Teain, Brantley, Jansen, Ellamae, Madilyn, and Mallory.  It was truly her greatest joy and accomplishment in life to be a Mom and a Mimi. She loved each of them fiercely and unconditionally.

Janet made childhood feel magical to each of her grandchildren. Some of their sweetest memories will forever be of the summer days spent at Mimi’s house – playing in the yard, learning how to swim, making s’mores around the fire, and spending afternoons at the kitchen table covered in glue, paint, and glitter, making crafts. One of the most loved spots at Mimi’s house was the candy station, made and stocked specially, filled with each grandkid's favorite snacks and treats. No moment was ever too small for Janet to make special, and her grandchildren always knew how deeply loved they were by her. She celebrated every milestone in their lives – every birthday party carefully planned, decorations hung with love, cakes made from scratch, and just the way each of the grandkids wanted them. Christmas at Mim’s house was like something out of a Hallmark movie.  She transformed her home each year into “Mimi’s Winter Wonderland”, filling every room with decorations, lights, warmth, and holiday magic for her grandbabies to enjoy. She poured her heart and soul into making each holiday unforgettable, creating traditions and making memories that will last a lifetime. No one will ever forget Mimi’s Magic Scarf, which was often wrapped lovingly around countless bumps and bruises and used to dry tears. Somehow, whenever one of the babies got hurt or needed a little extra comfort, Mimi’s scarf and her loving arms always seemed to make everything feel okay again. Those simple but treasured moments are memories our family will hold close to their hearts forever.

Even through the worst of pain and sickness, Janet never gave up. She continued to fight every day – filling her home with the love and laughter of her grandkids, who brought her the most joy in this world.

Janet was the heart of our family, and to know her was to know kindness, patience, and love that made everyone around her feel safe and at home. She was a devoted mother, a cherished Mimi, and the Matriarch of this family who held us together with steady hands, unwavering love, and endless support through all different seasons of our lives.

The world already feels less warm without her here, but we take comfort knowing that she has been reunited in Heaven with both her sister, Kelly, and her parents, Pat & Bill, whom she has spent missing since the moment they left this Earth.

Friends and family are welcome to join us for calling hours at Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home on 483 Chenango Street, in Binghamton, NY on Sunday, June 14 2026 from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm. A brief memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm.
