Jay Scott "Scotty" Compton, 73, went home to be with the Lord April 28, 2023 after a sudden illness. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda Lee Compton; his brother Richard (Therese) Compton; In-laws Cynthia (Wayne) Jones, Harold R. Vallese, Stuart M. (Cindy) Vallese and Warren R. Vallese; nieces and nephews Mary Poklemba, Michelle Vallese, Chris Vallese and Hunter Wignall; grandnieces and grandnephew Angelina Bennett, Miranda Poklemba and Dylan Poklemba; many cousins and friends, especially his musical family. He was predeceased by his parents George and Clare Compton and a nephew Shane Poklemba. Scotty attended Binghamton North High School and Broome Tech. He worked 42 years for the Press and Sun Bulletin. He was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church and it's "Good News" band. He volunteered at the Food Bank at Sunflower Park. Scotty was a well known musician in the community having played bass guitar in several bands; including the Blue J's, One Step South, TC Express, Blue Denim and many other local bands over the years. He also wrote several original songs. He loved animals, especially cats and could always be depended on to help others. Scotty loved everyone and made friends easily.
A memorial services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday May 20 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 731 Hooper Rd. Endwell. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 - 9:50 am. Those wishing to honor Scotty may do so by sending a donation in his memory to the Front St. Animal Shelter 110 Cutler Pond Rd. Binghamton, NY 13905.
