Joan (Caswell) Hamar-Petraske

Joan (Caswell) Hamar-Petraske, 81, died April 5, 2022. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Gerald and Linda Caswell, granddaughter Kayla, numerous Caswell in-laws, nieces and nephews, step-children Keith and Denise.  She was predeceased by her husbands Frank Hamar (1994) and Brian Petraske (2019), Joan worked for many years at Broome Community College as a Student Account Specialist. She was devoted to our military veterans and enjoyed attending veterans events and visiting veteran hospitals with her friend Jeannie, who died in March. She was a Life Member and Past President of the VFW Post 478 Auxiliary; a member and Past New York State President of the Military Order of the Cooties Auxiliary, and a member of the Community Baptist Church in Port Dickinson.
 
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Monday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2:00-4:00 pm. The VFW Auxiliary will conduct a service at 3:30 pm Sunday. She will be buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Town of Dickinson at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please honors Joan's dedication to veterans by  making a donation in her memory to the VFW Post 478  Auxiliary, 528 Court St. Binghamton, NY 13904.
