John T. Leipfert, 81, passed away at his home May 25, 2026. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Marsha; his sons, Christopher and Jason Leipfert; step-son, Mark England; grandchildren, Richard and Anne; sisters, Phyllis Finch and Ruth Ellen (Charles) Pearsall. He was predeceased by his father, Theodore Leipfert; mother, Helen Evans Leipfert Shurtleff; step-father, Sam Shurtleff and sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Richard Bennett.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with the 101st Airborne Division. He was a master cabinetmaker, operating Sam's Cabinet Shop in Hillcrest for 60 years. He enjoyed his woodworking and also gardening. He worked in volunteer service with the Mennonite Central Committee. John was a longtime resident of Hillcrest before moving to Hilltop Retirement Community in 2024. Most important of all, he loved his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday June 4 at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton, Rev. Lea Harding will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00-3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Guthrie Lourdes Hospice of the charity of your choice.
