Obituary


John F. Davern (Johnny)(J.D.), passed away September 17, 2022 at Mercy House, at the age of 77, after suffering with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents Mary E. Davern and John S. Davern, and his sister Barbara Carner. He is survived by two brothers Jim (Noni) Davern and Billy Davern; two sisters Mary Jo (Kenny) Honnick and Patty Davern (Bill Munich); also several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Johnny grew up on the family dairy farm, working hard on all the chores, especially during haying season, until he joined the Army for two years, including a tour in Vietnam. He was a member of the Local Painters Union for many years and was a volunteer at Lourdes Hospital. Whenever there was work to be done, Johnny was always there to help. He was an avid skier and loved to go downhill as fast as he could. He also loved fast cars. He loved  being outdoors, especially hunting with his group of buddies. After retirement he moved to Ft. Myers, Florida for 21 years.


The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:50 pm Thursday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton (Due to road construction, please access Chenango St. from Bevier St). A funeral will follow at 6:00 pm. The family requests memorial gifts in his name be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier 212 N. McKinley Ave. Endicott, NY 13760.
