John "Jack" Yevchak Obituary

On Friday June 19, 2026, Army Ranger Sgt. John “Jack” Yevchak left his earthly home and moved on to what is next, all on his terms. Jack was a renaissance man. He was a tool maker, wood carver, chef, marksman, outdoorsman, and a bastion of knowledge.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War or as he referred to it as his senior tour. Jack spent 2 ½ years in the jungle leading recon squads, he was wounded and experienced unspeakable events. He was very proud of his military service and felt every day he lived after Vietnam was a gift. It’s probably why he fought his cancer diagnosis with everything he had. It’s hard to say whether he was optimistic or just plain stubborn, but he fought until the end.

While Jack didn't have any family, he found family with people he met over the years. He loved dogs. When the Humane Society asked if he would be a good dog dad, he would be. If you were a dog, you couldn’t find a better home, he even cooked for his dogs. While he lived a mostly solitary life, his choice, he was very social and would talk your ear off if given the opportunity.

He is survived by his chosen family, Jeff Herel, David Stroka, Vince Sano, Tony Valachovic, Jane Godbey, Bob & Jose Soto, and too many to count from the gun club, IBM, the Chefs’ Association, and the carving club, to name a few.

Jack was a good friend to those who knew him. Rest easy, my friend, know that you were loved!

Please make gifts in his memory to the BC Humane Society.
