Leona (Pichura) Tomancik

Vestal - Leona Tomancik passed away at her home September 15, 2022. She is survived by her beloved family; her husband of almost 59 years, William; their children William (Lori) Tomancik, John (J.T.) (Anita) Tomancik,  Michelle (Robert) Teed and Brian (Molly) Tomancik; 7 grandchildren Stella, Jack, Michael, Matthew, Sophie, Spencer and Cheyne; brother John Pichura; sister Rita Hartmann; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Josephine (Rozaieski) Pichura

Leona married her high school sweet-heart and love of her life William on October 5, 1963. Together they raised their family at their home in Vestal. Family was central to her life. She exuded  positive energy and love in all she did, and was a wonderful wife, mother and “Babka”. Her greatest joy was becoming a grandmother and babysitting her seven grandchildren. She leaves behind many special memories of family vacations to Ocean City, NJ, Sunday family dinners, hosting Easter dinner with the “Regs” and cooking and baking with her children and grandchildren, especially halupki and kolazki. Leona enjoyed polka music, pilates and knitting. She worked as a Special Education Aide for many years for Vestal Schools.

The family extends their deepest appreciation to the nurses and aids from Lourdes Hospice for the special care they provided to Leona. To honor that care, donations may made to Lourdes Hospice, 169 Riverside Dr. Binghamton, NY 13905

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 am Tuesday at St. Vincent DePaul-Blessed Sacrament Church, 465 Clubhouse Rd. Vestal. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 – 10:50 am. A private burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
