Lila Ann Mitchell, 67, of Binghamton, NY, passed away on December 13, 2025.
Lila was raised in Clearwater, Florida, alongside her six siblings, and graduated from Clearwater High School, Class of 1977. Those who knew and loved her describe her as someone who would “give you the shirt off her own back.” From a young age, Lila was a nurturing and protective sister whose big-hearted nature continued throughout her adult life and motherhood. She loved her children fiercely and unconditionally.
Determined to further her education while raising her family and working, Lila proudly earned her Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences. Her career choices consistently reflected her caring spirit, as she dedicated herself to helping others—working in hospitals, assisted living residences, group homes, and as a substitute teacher.
In the last decade of her life, Lila found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren. Her memory will live on through the unbreakable bond she shared with her granddaughters and in the hearts of all who were touched by her immeasurable love.
Lila is survived by her children Daniel Wayman, Suzanne Wayman, Mary Grome, and Katie DeBusk-Harris; her grandchildren Scarlet Patterson, Aria Patterson, and Juliana Wayman; her longtime partner Gary DeBusk; and her siblings Theresa Boatner, Kevin Mitchell (Kathy), Holly Varner, Brian Mitchell (Helen), and Patrick Mitchell (Marty). She is predeceased by her parents, Mary Elaine and James Roy Mitchell; her brother Kelly Mitchell; and her brother-in-law Herb Boatner.
