She is survived by her adoring children and their spouses, David and Andrea Wintergrass, of Stamford, CT, Cindy and Chip Fedish of Hillcrest, NY; grandchildren and their spouses, Kristin and David Myers of Monticello, NY, Alyssa and Mike Drowne of Trumbull, CT, Cameron and Sami Fedish of Binghamton, NY, and Kara and Paul Tusch of Nashville, TN; great grandchildren, Morgan, Liam and Paige Myers and Laney and Layton Drowne; nieces and nephews, Ceil and Jim Howe, John and Elaine Wintergrass, Karen and Ryan Foley, and Amy and JP Costello.
Joan was a graduate of Binghamton North High School. She began her career as Society Editor at The Press and Sun Bulletin where she met the love of her life. She worked for the American Red Cross followed by 25 years of service at Lourdes Hospital. She spent many hours alongside her daughter at Country Additions Gift Shop, always greeting customers with her famous “Hi, there!”
She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. She was a good, kind, gentle woman who loved her family dearly. She thoroughly enjoyed every minute spent with her great grandchildren (her “babies”), especially listening to their stories.
The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to the caring and loving staff and residents of Elizabeth Church Manor. Many became Joan’s close friends. The family would also like to recognize her dearest friend of many years, Carole, who offered her loyal friendship, comfort and support. In addition, special friend Nancy was always by her side to lend a helping hand. The ongoing support and love from Patty, Peg and Pete was invaluable. Thank you to Donna who never missed a biweekly card and message. A final thank you to the remarkable staff of Guthrie Lourdes Seton 3.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1031 Chenango St. Hillcrest at 11:00am Tuesday, January 7, 2025. The family will receive friends at St. Francis of Assisi Church Tuesday from 9:00am until 10:50am. Burial will follow at Chenango Valley Cemetery, Hillcrest. In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable contribution to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
