Martha Sola, 58, of Vestal, died unexpectedly June 7, 2022, while in the midst of a bravely fought battle against cancer.
She is survived by her beloved family; her children Luis Silva, Teresa Silva and Mark (Allison) Eagle Elk-Sola; her cherished grandchildren who where her very soul, Lilliana, Elena, Christina, Kalahni, Mia and Gabriel; her father Natalio Sola; sister Lillian Gyomai; brother David Sola; her aunts Lucy and Aurora, as well as an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who were all a special part of Martha's life as well as her dog Tonka and cat Dinah.
Martha was born in Brooklyn, NY. She earned her Associates Degree at Hunter College before coming to Binghamton University to earn her Bachelor's Degree. She completed her Master's Degree at Syracuse University and SUNY Albany.
Martha was employed as a Social Worker for Broome-Tioga BOCES. She loved helping people with disabilities and trauma. She invested herself fully in the care of her students.
She loved her family deeply and celebrated being the best mother, grandmother and sister she could be. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, watching Latino movies, and reading and writing poetry. She was proud of her Taino ancestry and to be an honored Lakota pipe carrier.
Services will be private.
