Mary Josephine “Jo” (Gunther) Doolittle, 84, passed away August 7, 2022. She is survived by her beloved family; her daughters Patricia (Robert) Maxim, Kathleen (David) Groover, Susanne (James) Santamarina and Jennifer (John) Kakusian, grandchildren; Daniel (Danielle) Maxim, Thomas (Gentianna) Maxim, Brittany Sharpe, Jaclyn Wood and Glen P. Wood, Joseph (Jennifer) Santamarina, James (Stacey) Santamarina, Christopher Marsh, Victoria Kakusian and Michael Kakusian, 8 great-grandchildren; brother Charles (Gurine) Gunther; sister Jane Bower; brothers-in-law Roger L. (Carolyn) Doolittle, Douglas A. (Linda) Doolittle; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Frederick W. Doolittle; her parents Paul and Claire Gunther; parents-in-law Franklyn O. and Harriet Doolittle; brother-in-law Clarence Bower, niece Anne Gober and nephews Thomas Doolittle and Todd Bower. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Beyond her own family Jo was also loved deeply by many friends and neighbors who also mourn her loss. Jo was a proud graduate of Vestal High School, class of 1956. After raising her family, she worked as a Library Clerk for the Four County Library System. She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Chenango Bridge for over 60 years and was a long-time member of Maine Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. Jo proudly supported her husband Fred’s work as a Shriner, and for over ten years accompanied him on numerous trips driving children to the Shriners Hospital for their treatments. She especially enjoyed the monthly luncheons with her Vestal classmates and the Ross Corners “Gang".
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Thursday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 200 Jefferson Ave. Endicott. Burial will follow in Glen Castle Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 9:00-9:50 am.
