Melvin E. Rozen, 96, passed away on Sunday, April 23 in Palm Beach Florida. He was predeceased by his first wife Rita, his parents Leo and Anna Rozen, and his siblings Irving, Milton, Minnie, and Shirley.
A 1944 graduate of Binghamton North High School, he served in the US army Air Corps at the end of World War II. He learned the family business while growing up, and established his own burlap bag and scrap business, Interstate Burlap & Bag Company, in Great Bend, Pa. in the early 1950s.
Melvin was a lifetime member and past president of Beth David Synagogue. Upon his retirement in 1990, he and his wife Barbara relocated to Florida, where he became an active member of the Palm Beach Synagogue.
Melvin is survived by his wife Barbara, his children Brian (Chaya) Rozen, Jay (Michelle) Rozen, and Michelle (Yerachmiel) Donowitz. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service is scheduled for Tuesday, April 25, at noon at Beth David Cemetery, Conklin, NY. Shiva will be observed in Baltimore and Silver Spring, Maryland. Contributions to Mr. Rozen’s memory may be made to Beth David Synagogue, 39 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, NY 13905.
