On April 20, 2023, heaven gained another NY Rangers and NY Yankees fan. Michael Dennis Burns, 74, of Binghamton, NY passed away after a courageous battle with heart disease. Mike grew up on the east side of Binghamton, moved to the west side and later returned to the east side to raise his family. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Jean (Pendlebury) Burns, also by a special great aunt Theresa Whalen. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Darlene; his sons Kevin (Amanda) and Steven (Katie); his brothers, Tom (Wendi), Dan, Jim (Nancy), Tim (Cathy Franks). He is also survived by his greatest joys, grandchildren Colin, Konnor and Leah. Mike also leaves behind his beloved cat Buddy. Mike graduated from Binghamton North High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy. Upon return, Mike graduated from BCC with an accounting degree. He spent the majority of his career in sales and marketing
Mike was very involved in his son's sports, coaching Little League, and Babe Ruth, passing his love of sports onto Kevin and Steve. Mike's never-ending love of hockey began when the Dusters came to town and continued as his sons played hockey, where he was their biggest fan. Mike was a real foodie, enjoying the Shady Maple buffets in Lancaster and the endless food and drink while cruising with his wife Darlene. Mike loved hearing his family's laughter when he entertained with his funny stories. We'll miss you Mike and always love you.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 am Thursday at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Binghamton. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Wednesday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. Those wishing to make a memorial Contribution may make them out to the American Cancer Society or Project Paw in Mike’s memory.
