Michael F. Garuto, Sr., 82, of Binghamton, passed away May 20, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Theresa Garuto; his children, Michael Garuto, Jr., Dawn Garuto-Jewett and Magdalena Bandi; 7 grandchildren, Tasha (TJ), Dante, Davan, James (Serena) William, Amie an Angelica; 5 great-grandchildren; his sisters Georgia (Nevin) Taber, Jeanie Garuto and Peggy (Don) Wandell; his lifelong friend Walter Stevens; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents James and Margaret Garuto, his daughter Margaret and sister Regina Pesko.
Michael served in the United States Air Force from 1959-62. He later worked for Cadre before embarking on a career with the United States Postal Service in Binghamton, retiring after 32 years of service. In his younger days he enjoyed motorcycling, hunting and golfing. He also enjoyed astronomy and studying outer space with his telescope. Mike was a talented woodworker and carver, and made special carved banks for each of his grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1305 and enjoyed playing computer games.
A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday May 28 at Vestal Hills Memorial Park. Those attending are requested to meet at the cemetery office by 10:45 am to process to the burial site together. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Tuesday May 27 at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. There will be a time to share memories beginning at 7:00 pm.
