Michael Marayati Obituary

Michael Marayati passed away peacefully on July 12th, 2020. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Sally Marayati, and sister Sharon Ardolino. He is survived by his sister, Linda Stark and her husband Donald, nephews and nieces, Brian (Sarah) Ardolino, Danielle Ardolino, Evan, Justin, and Leah Stark, great nephew Bennett Ardolino, and lifelong friends Mike, Al, and Steve.  He lived most of his life in Brooklyn and studied Political Science at St. John’s University in Queens. The Firehouse (Storefront) was his passion during the 1970’s and into the 80’s. There he was the Chairman of the Bay Ridge Youth Organization and commissioner of the strat-o-matic football league through which he was the center of the social club that kept his friends close. He also played softball as a member of The Titanics. A true New Yorker, he loved the Rangers, Jets and Mets. He worked nearly 20 years on the Commodity Exchange and COMEX in NYC, where as a master problem solver he reconciled all trades at the end of the day. After his stroke, he stayed in Binghamton and made many friends. Michael’s deep love of history made him an excellent conversationalist and a dedicated coin collector. As an avid video game player, he showed his nephews and nieces the ropes at an early age. Although Michael loved eating a variety of food, his love of Syrian food knew no bounds. He will be fondly remembered, maniacally pounding away at the piano and caring for stray cats in his neighborhood.  Family was always very important to Michael. He loved making extended visits to his sisters’ to spend time with his nieces and nephews. As they grew older, he kept up with their lives and would brag about them to anyone who would listen. Michael’s family would like to extend sincere gratitude to his caregivers at Willow Point Nursing Home: Ashley Hammond, Jessica, Sarah, his nurses, CNA’s and all employees who touched his life and helped with Saturday lunches with the “gang”. We will be forever grateful for their unwavering dedication and support, including all the times someone stopped in just to talk. You all made his life a little better. The family will receive friends at the Hopler and Eschbach Funeral Home on August 1st from 2-4pm. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Activities Department at Willow Point Nursing Home, 3700 Vestal Rd. Vestal, NY 13805, in recognition of all their efforts to make Michael's many years at Willow Point comfortable and enjoyable.
