After filling the world with 100 years of kindness, Mildred “Millie” Griffin, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of generosity that touched countless lives.
Born to Joseph and Mary Livsey in Carbondale PA on July 10, 1925, Millie grew up a coal miner‘s daughter. After graduating Carbondale High School at the age of 16, Millie boarded a bus and headed to Binghamton, NY, where she met and married the love of her life, her husband of 49 years, James J. Griffin. Together, they lived a life filled with laughter, family, friends, and faith, until his death in 1996.
With a limitless servant’s heart, she cared for, cooked for, and sewed for, a multitude of friends and family. At the same time, however she was merciless at a game of cards and never missed a good Manhattan at happy hour. She was devoted to her faith in Jesus Christ and prayed several times a day for loved ones. Millie was truly loved by all and we were blessed to have known her.
Millie is survived by her children, James L. Griffin, Joseph (Diane) Griffin and Mary France; six grandchildren, Jill (Patrick) Mente, Joseph Griffin, Leah Griffin, Michael (Eulimar) France, Matthew France, Amanda (Jake) Gidzinski; and three great-grandchildren, Isabella Gidzinski, Wyatt Gidzinski and Melvin Mente, all of whom carry forward Mema‘s incredible spirit.
Mema taught us the secret to a happy, long life is to push through adversity and acknowledge every blessing.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 am Monday April 20 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1031 Chenango St. Binghamton. Burial will follow in Chenango Valley Cemetery, Hillcrest.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 pm Sunday April 19, at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton.
