Nadezhda Ponizhaylo, 71, died at her home February 3, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband Slavyan on September 8, 2020. She is survived by her beloved daughter Diana Ponizhaylo and her step-children; Bogdan (Nadezhda), Volodia (Tamara) and Peter (Inna), along with step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Nadezdha was born in Ukraine and migrated to the United States in 1990, first settlling in Freeville, and after marrying Slavyan, she moved to Endwell and later Johnson City.
She stayed home to raise her cherished daughter Diana. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker who could not only cook traditional Ukrainian meals, but also created some of her own unique meals which were loved by all.
In the words of Diana, Nadezhda was the strongest woman she knew, as she faced all of life's challenges as they came along. She was an active and faithful member of the Binghamton First Ukrainian Pentecostal Church.
Evening services will be held Friday February 10th at the Binghamton First Ukrainian Pentecostal Church on Castle Creek Road.The service will begin at 6:30 pm. The final services and burial will begin10:00 am Saturday at Spring Forest Cemetery, Mygatt St. Binghamton.
