While in her sleep, on September 26, 2022, Octavia Stanton, 93, reunited with her husband Elliott, in Heaven. She was born in Eynon, Pennsylvania in 1929 to Alfonso & Helen (Santiago) DeCarli. She became an Army wife when she married her true love, Elliott in 1951. They moved several times while in the Army and ended up settling back here in Binghamton near family, where they had both grown up. Her favorite pastime was taking care of her family but when she wasn’t doing that she was reading. Her most favorite books were romance novels and many hours of her life were spent in pursuit of the unread book or reading. Together happily for 59 years until his passing in 2010, allowed them to build their life with their five children. Because family meant everything to them, they also enjoyed spending time with their grandkids whenever they could. One of the memories that all her children and grandchildren will carry with them is her Sunday spaghetti dinners. They were a constant source of fun and delicious food that everyone looked forward to and enjoyed.
She was welcomed into Heaven by Elliott and her parents along with her sister and her husband, Angeline and Leland Wells, brother Del Santiago, sister in laws, Desi DeCarli, and Bernice Root. She leaves behind her brothers Roger DeCarli and Gene Santiago as well as several nieces and nephews, her children: Ralph & Carol Stanton, Cathy Stanton, Ken & Lorie Stanton, Michael & Colleen Stanton and Teresa & Colin Soule. Also, her ten grandchildren: Jeremy & Brandi Stanton, Janel Stanton, Taija & Bryce Patrick, Lisa & Sam Thompson, Michael Stanton, Paul & Kerrin Stanton, Vanessa & Chad Gerdus, Nicolette Stanton & Fiancé Matthew McLain, Cameron & Katie Soule and Evan & Samantha Soule. She lived long enough to know twelve great grandchildren: Oliver Stanton, Amelia Stanton, Madison Patrick, Milan Stanton, Mariah Patrick, Oliver Thompson, Bellamy Stanton, Elowyn Stanton, Gracie Soule, Finley Tave Soule, Greyson Soule and Frankie May Soule.
Her last few years were difficult, but she was able to remain home with the love of her family around her because of the great care and attention she was given by them as well as her wonderful caregivers who treated her with great respect and love. They could see who she was despite her aging and enjoyed her great personality and loving soul. Heartfelt thanks to each one of them for their kindness and care: Renee Keville, Hunter Schmidt, Mikayla Degraw, Holly Vail and Marissa Laszewski.
