Paul Lewis Tamkins

Paul, 88, died peacefully on June 25th 2026 in Binghamton, NY. Born November 16th, 1937, in Binghamton, NY, Paul was the son of Charles Hall Tamkins and Dorothy (Webb) Tamkins. He lived most of his life in Conklin, NY and was a 6th  generation member the Tamkins family of Conklin. For the last 3 years, he enjoyed independent living at the Hilltop Campus in Johnson City, NY.

Paul attended Conklin schools and graduated from North High School in Binghamton NY. He did Offset printing: camera, stripping, and press work at the Quality Press print shop in Binghamton for 33 years followed by 7 years at Joggerst Printing in Binghamton. 

Paul was independent, forthright and valued honesty in himself and others. In his younger years, his interests were baseball and skiing. Later in life, golf became his passion. Even when he could no longer play, he could be found watching golf lessons on TV. He often had long phone conversations about golf and football with his nephew, Hal. Giants were Paul’s team, no matter their record. He loved cars and enjoyed long leisurely drives. He could recount every car he ever had, in order, by make, model, color and year, all 37 of them. He told a Doctor when he was in the hospital that he could give up golf if he had to but he couldn’t give up driving. Paul was knowledgeable about history and closely followed politics.

Paul was predeceased by his parents, his brother Gerald Tamkins and his brother-in-law Robert Wickizer. Paul is survived by his sister Joyce Wickizer (Saratoga Springs), sister-in-law, Beatrice Gill Tamkins (Binghamton) and many caring nieces and nephews of both families. His nieces, Loretta Garcia and Melinda Bacharach were very special to him during his last four years. In spite of busy families of their own, they were always available to help. He was blessed with a large extended family who were present when needed. At Paul’s request, he will be cremated and there will be no viewing or funeral. The family has chosen to honor him privately.
