Richard D. Aldrich, 95, formerly of Kirkwood, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord on Tuesday March 25, 2025 at Elderwood Village in Vestal, with his daughter by his side. He is survived by his beloved family, his daughter Sandra Slodki; grandchildren Jeremy (Lauren) Slodki and Jenelle (Chris) O’Toole and great-grandsons Hudson and Griffin Slodki. He was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Marjorie Aldrich, his son Douglas Aldrich, son-in-law Marty Slodki and siblings Clarence Aldrich, Robert Aldrich and Dorothy Meeker. Dick was a lifelong member and former Trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Johnson City. He was a retired employee of the Binghamton Press and Sun Bulletin. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 1645 in Binghamton. He was also a longtime member of the Five Mile Point Volunteer Fire Company in Kirkwood. Dick was a loyal fan of the Washington Redskins and the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed hunting and golfing. Dick was also an avid gardener and took delight in sharing the vegetables he grew with his family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am – 10:50 am Thursday April 3, at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am, Rev. Robert T. Peak officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Chenango Valley Cemetery, Hillcrest. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Johnson City, 2 Main St. Johnson City, NY or to Mercy House of the House of the Southern Tier, 212 N.
