Richard Shipway Obituary

Richard E. Shipway, 88,  passed away October 21, 2024 at his home. He is survived by his children Michael Shipway and Edlyn Dutton; three grandchildren Charles (Courtney) Dutton, Alexander Dutton and Sarah Dutton; and son-in-law Scott (Cindy) Paris. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Anita Shipway; two children Charles Shipway and Susan Paris; brothers James and John Shipway; and son-in-law Barry Dutton. Dick was a native of Cherry Valley, NY. He graduated from Alfred State College. After graduation he began a 30 plus year career as an engineer at IBM. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Family in Endwell and the IBM Quarter Century Club. He played tuba in the IBM Band and the Maine Community Band, serving as President of the band for over 20 years. Dick was mechanically gifted and could be relied on by family and friends to fix almost anything. He especially enjoyed tinkering with and repairing old clocks. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-62.
  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 am Friday at the Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis St., Endwell. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St., Binghamton. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in memory of Dick to Mercy House, 212 N. McKinley Ave, Endicott, NY 13760
