Richard “Rick” Lamoreaux, 90, passed away peacefully at home on April 28, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, patriotism, and unmatched dedication to his family and country. Rick proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 14 years after enlisting on June 10, 1953. He served during the Korean War from 1954-1955 and later in the Vietnam War from 1966-1967. His bravery and sacrifice were recognized with two Purple Heart medals, a testament to his courage and commitment to his fellow service members and country. He then enlisted in the United States Army Reserves in 1975-1996 where he earned the top rank of Command Sergeant Major. Following his military career, Rick continued to serve his community as a dedicated member of the Binghamton Police Department for 14 years, where he was respected for his integrity, leadership, and sense of duty. Rick remained deeply connected to his fellow veterans throughout his life. He was active in several military organizations, including the VFW, DAV, American Legion, AMVETS, and the Marine Corps League, where he continued to honor and support those who served.
Above all else, Rick was a family man. He is survived by the love of his life, Lorraine, with whom he shared 55 beautiful years of marriage; their children, Lori Haines, Lisa (David) Townsend, Rick (Jennifer) Lamoreaux; grandchildren, Jordan Loihle, Mckenzie (Garret) Morse, Mason (Gabby) Townsend, Kaya Lamoreaux, Rory Lamoreaux, Mason McNitt and Gabrielle McNitt; two sisters Catherine Lilly and Eleanor Lamoreaux; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also blessed with several great-grandchildren whom he loved and adored. Known affectionately as “Popu” to his grandchildren. Rick was preceded in death by his parents Carl Lamoreaux and Elva Lamoreaux Pipher and his brother Clint Lamoreaux. Rick cherished every moment spent with his family. He took great pride in their lives and accomplishments and was a steady, loving presence for generations. Rick also found great joy and peace at his cottage on Cincinnatus Lake. He loved quiet days spent fishing, and evenings gathered around bonfires with family and friends sharing stories, laughter, and memories. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday May 9 at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton.
