Robert (Bob the Barber) Payne, 80, born Nov. 14, 1943, passed away May 3, 2024 in Auburn, NY. He was predeceased by his parents William in 1981 and Margareta in 1990 and the love of his life Mariette (Mary) Kurey in 2023. He is survived by two sons Ronald and Phillip. Bob worked for over 50 years as a Barber, beginning in Ilion and retiring in Binghamton. He also had two part-time jobs working as a sales counselor at Vestal Hills Memorial Park and as a sales demonstrator for Lifetime Cookware. He enjoyed golf, gambling at Turning Stone and playing darts with his many friends. He also served in the National Guard and was a member of the 1st Ward American Legion Post 1254. Bob and Mariette enjoyed traveling to visit relatives and friends in the Mohawk Valley, Auburn and Afton. He wants to be remembered for his witty saying and jokes. Bob believed laughter was the best medicine and enjoying making people laugh.
At Bob's request there will be no public services. He will be buried in Holy Spirit Cemetery in a private ceremony.
