Rosetta Jayne Wheeler, 99, passed away peacefully August 17, 2023 at Good Shepherd Fairview Home surrounded by her caregivers. She was preceded by her husband Richmond Wheeler, her parents Hilda (Shannon) and Raymond Lee Smith and brother Lee Smith. She is survived by her daughter Barbara and son-in-law David Drabo of Monterey CA; nieces Corrine Hawley, Suzanne Ashley and nephew Ray Smith and their families. She had too many good friends to list but you know who you are. Mom continued to make friends and was told she had more visitors at GSFH than anyone else.
Jayne was born May 12, 1924 in her childhood home in Fairdale PA. She lived a simple dairy farming life where her role was housekeeping, cooking and cleaning. After high school she braved her way to Binghamton, lived at the YWCA and attended Ridley's School of Business. Soon after she began her 40+ year career in the wholesale grocery business.
Jayne enjoyed 37-years of retirement. She travelled with the 1st Ward and Kattelville seniors. She was a member of Eastern Star and the Immanuel Presbyterian Church until its closure at which time she transferred her membership to the Nimmonsburg United Methodist Church. Mom said "I came into this world a Methodist, I can go out as one."
We would like to thank the staff at GSFH for their watchful care of Mom. We also want to thank the Hospice staff for their guidance these past 9-months and especially for helping Mom transition home to heaven.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am – 11:50 am Tuesday at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St. Binghamton. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in Fairdale Cemetery, Fairdale, PA. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the GSFH Auxiliary, Nimmonsburg United Methodist Church or Mercy House. Please sign her online guestbook at www.HEFUNERALHOME.com
