Ruth “Tudy” Orleen Loper Pixley passed on March 17, 2025, at Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, peacefully and surrounded by family. She was 88 years old. Ruth was born on December 30, 1936. Tudy, as she was affectionately known since childhood, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, family, community service and compassion.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents Orla E. and Nellie (nee Burgess) Loper, her loving husband Donald, sons Curt and Patrick. Her legacy lives on as she is survived by her sons and wives: Blane (Susan), Mike (Joyce), and Stephen, daughter-in-law Eileen, as well as grandchildren: Caitlin, Benjamin, Kenneth, Chelsea, Cassandra, Tyler, Isaac, Aaron, and Abigail; and great-grandchildren: Genevieve, Jackson, Macklin, Thea Ruth, Addison and baby due in July. Ruth’s cherished family, include her five siblings: Mary Lee, David, Kathleen, Catherine, and Susan and sister-in-law Donna, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
She was born in Lowville, New York and grew up in Oswego, she met Donald at SUNY Morrisville. Once married, Ruth and Don made their home in Bainbridge, NY. A member of Union Valley United Methodist Church, Ruth was active and a leader in United Methodist Women. Completely invested in children and the community, Ruth was a proud member of the Bainbridge Fire Department, Emergency Squad and Auxiliary, serving in several offices, and in the scouting program, serving as Den Mother and Cubmaster. Ruth also was active in the Eastern Star, serving in a variety of roles, and the daughters of the Nile. She also completed the Master Gardener program at Cornell Cooperative Extension.
Ruth had several professions throughout her life. She worked in a variety of food service jobs, before spending many years in the offices of Horton Hardware, Afton. Once her children had all graduated school, she went back to college receiving her BA at SUNY Oneonta and her MS. Ed. from Marywood University, attaining her teaching certification. A great joy of her life was teaching many years at the Children’s Home of Wyoming Conference, and retiring in Port Dickinson, NY. Still not done with community service, Ruth volunteered for the American Red Cross, in several capacities.
A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful people at Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the care they provided Ruth these past two years.
